Cox Communications provides cable TV service in the City of La Mesa under a non-exclusive franchise agreement, which expires in May 2008. A new law – The Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act of 2006 (AB 2987) – went into effect on January 1, 2007. AB 2987 shifts franchise authority away from local jurisdictions to the State of California.
